Whitelist, operators and bans
The Players page controls who can join your server and who has admin powers. It has four tabs: Whitelist, Operators, Banned players and Banned IPs. The number in brackets shows how many entries each list has.
Changes apply now if the server is running, or at its next start.
Add a player
- Open Players in the MINECRAFT group.
- Click the tab you want.
- Type the player name in the Player name box.
- Click Add.
The extra box, UUID (optional; Bedrock only), is for Bedrock players. Leave it empty for Java players.
To remove someone, use the remove action next to their name in the list.
The four lists
Whitelist
A whitelist makes your server private: only players on it can join.
- Add the names of your players on the Whitelist tab.
- Open Properties and turn on Whitelist.
- Turn on Enforce Whitelist if you also want to kick anyone not on the list when you enable it.
- Restart the server.
Operators
Operators (ops) can run admin commands, change gamemode, teleport and more. Add only people you fully trust, because an operator can do almost anything on your server. If you use a permissions plugin such as LuckPerms, you can give finer permissions than full operator status. See Plugins.
Banned players
A banned player cannot join, even if they are on the whitelist. Remove them from the list to unban them.
Banned IPs
An IP ban blocks an address instead of a name, so it also stops a banned player who changes their account. Use it with care: other people can share the same address.
Console equivalents
Everything on this page can also be done from the Console. Type the command without a slash.

Replace Name with the exact player name.
Tips and common problems
- Spelling matters. If a player cannot join with the whitelist on, check that their name is spelled exactly as in their account.
- Whitelist is on but nothing happens. Make sure Whitelist is turned on in Properties and the server was restarted.
- A player says they are whitelisted but cannot join. If Online Mode is off, names are not verified the same way; check Properties.
- Access for staff. To let a helper manage the server itself (not just the game), invite them under Users in Settings instead of making them an operator.
