Files and SFTP
The Files page lets you browse, edit and upload the files of your server, either in the browser or from your computer over SFTP. Your server lives in the folder /home/container, which is where the page opens.
The file manager
At the top of the list you will see the path (home / container) and three buttons:
- Create Directory makes a new folder in the folder you are in.
- Upload sends files from your computer to the server.
- New File creates an empty file and opens it for editing.
Each row shows the name, the size (for files) and when it was last changed. Click a folder to open it, and click the path at the top to go back up.
Actions on a file or folder
Right-click a row, or click the ... menu on the right of it, to get the actions:
- Rename
- Move
- Permissions
- Archive (compress)
- Unarchive (extract)
- Download
- Delete
You can also tick the boxes on the left of the rows to select several items and act on them together.
Edit a file in the browser
- Click the file name, for example
server.propertiesorbukkit.yml. - Make your changes in the editor.
- Save the file.
- Restart the server if the game only reads that file when it starts (see Console).
Before you edit an important file, copy it or make a backup. A small typo in a config can stop the server from starting.
Upload files
- Open the folder where the files should go (for example
plugins). - Click Upload and choose your files.
- Wait for the upload to finish before restarting the server.
For many files or large files, uploading one archive and unarchiving it on the server is faster and safer than uploading hundreds of small files. Use Archive on your side (a .zip is fine), upload it, then use Unarchive from the ... menu.
SFTP
SFTP lets you manage the files from programs like FileZilla or WinSCP. It is the best way to move big worlds, many plugins or whole backups.
Where to find your details
The box at the top of the Files page is titled SFTP and shows:
- Host: the address of the SFTP server. Copy it from the box.
- Port:
2022. - User: your panel username and the 8-character server ID, joined by a dot (for example
yourname.1a2b3c4d). Copy it from the box. - Password: the box tells you it is the SFTP password you set in Settings.
Always copy Host and User from the box instead of typing them, so you use exactly what your server shows.
Set your SFTP password or an SSH key
Your account login password is not used for SFTP. You set a separate one:
- Open Settings and go to SFTP access.
- Click Set an SFTP password and choose a password.
- Or click Add an SSH key and paste your public key. Until you set a password, SFTP only works with an SSH key.
The SFTP password and the SSH keys belong to your account, so they work on all your servers. Only the User changes from server to server. More in Settings.
Connect with FileZilla
- Open File > Site Manager and click New site.
- Protocol: SFTP - SSH File Transfer Protocol.
- Host: paste the host from the SFTP box.
- Port:
2022. - Logon Type: Normal, then enter the User and your SFTP password.
- Click Connect. Accept the host key the first time.
Connect with WinSCP
- Click New Session.
- File protocol: SFTP.
- Host name: paste the host. Port number:
2022. - Enter the User name and your SFTP password.
- Click Login and accept the host key the first time.
Common problems
- Login fails: check that you set an SFTP password in Settings > SFTP access and that you did not use your store password. Check that the user includes the server ID.
- Connection times out: make sure the port is
2022and the protocol is SFTP, not FTP. - Cannot save a file: if you are a subuser, you may not have file permissions. Ask the server owner.
- Changes do not apply: most game config files are read on start. Restart the server.
